O futuro da internet é móvel. Com a base mundial de dispositivos móveis chegando a quase 4 bilhões, trata-se apenas de uma questão de tempo para que mais pessoas se conectem pelos seus celulares à web do que por seus computadores.

Você acredita que no futuro haverá mais pessoas conectadas à internet pelos celulares do que pelos PCs?
Sim. Essa é aposta do Yahoo. Acreditamos que com melhores dispositivos, melhores redes e com preços razoáveis mundialmente isso acontecerá.

Sabemos que estamos chegando a quase 4 bilhões de dispositivos móveis em todo mundo. Por outro lado, sabemos também que a banda larga em PCs está chegando a ponto de saturação. A expectativa de crescimento nos PCs é muito limitada. Ainda haverá algum, mas não tanto quanto esperamos na área móvel.

Em quanto tempo isso deve acontecer?
Isso dependerá de muitas variáveis, mas acho que ainda levará alguns anos.

Quais são os obstáculos para a expansão da internet móvel e como eles serão superados?
Há diversas coisas que identificamos no passado como obstáculos e desafios para expandir os serviços de internet móvel. Acreditamos que estes desafios foram, em grande parte, superados. Entre eles estão as tecnologias de dispositivos; questões ligadas às operadoras - como redes que possam tornar as aplicações e serviços interessantes para os usuários -, além de educação dos usuários e preços. Achamos que neste momento a maioria desses desafios está sendo superada.

Com o advento não só do iPhone mas de muitos outros aparelhos high end, sabemos que a internet móvel está crescendo muito rapidamente. Sabemos que há um grande crescimento em serviços e aplicações, que as pessoas estão mandando bilhões de mensagens SMS e que o download de tons e wallpapers é um negócio bilionário.

Não há números oficiais, mas estima-se que no Brasil haja quase 300 mil iPhones em uso. Outro rumor é de que há mais de 400 mil iPhones reservados para o lançamento no Brasil. Sabemos que há um apetite. É um telefone, mas é também um dispositivo de navegação.

As plataformas de desenvolvimento (SDKs) do iPhone e do Android, do Google, têm atraído uma legião de desenvolvedores e loja de aplicativos para o iPhone registrou mais de 60 milhões de downloads no 1º mês. Este é o momento dos aplicativos móveis?
Realmente, a primeira coisa que a pessoa faz quando compra um iPhone é ir à loja online e ver quais aplicações gratuitas tem para baixar ou mesmo para comprar. É uma ótima oportunidade para a Apple e para os desenvolvedores de aplicações. Também é um modelo interessante para atrair anunciantes, tanto em torno do aplicativo quanto dentro dele mesmo. Nós acreditamos nesse modelo e é nele que baseamos nossos produtos.

Quais são os serviços de internet que migrarão com mais força para o celular nos próximos anos?
Serviços de comunidade e redes sociais serão muito importantes no futuro. O Yahoo está apostando em um framework para a criação de aplicativos e serviços que permitam às pessoas agregar suas diferentes comunidades. Sabemos que podemos criar grandes tecnologias, mas sabemos que os usuário não vão apenas procurar produtos do Yahoo, vão procurar o Facebook, o MySpace e outros serviços de música e vídeo. Portanto é nossa responsabilidade criar produtos que possibilitem aos desenvolvedores criar seus próprios aplicativos. Nos Estados Unidos já lançamos um cliente capaz de incorporar widgets de empresas como eBay, MTV e MySpace ao telefone móvel. Também queremos criar clientes que agreguem diferentes plataformas de comunicação - desde e-mail até mensagem instantânea - para que o usuário saiba onde estão seus amigos, o que eles estão usando e como estão usando.

Também olhamos para os serviços de localização e os telefones com câmeras e como isso pode ser associado a comunidades por meio de recursos como tags geográficas. Já temos um produto que permite aos usuários do Flickr fazer o upload de suas fotos e colocar tags, então quando você olha em uma sobreposição com o Yahoo Maps você pode saber onde as pessoas estão indo e o que elas estão fotografando. É uma perspectiva totalmente nova que é particular ao telefone móvel. É um ambiente único e dinâmico que permitirá às agências e marqueteiros chegar ao consumidor por meio do dispositivo que ele carrega o tempo todo e saber onde ele estará quando receber o anúncio. É uma ferramenta extremamente poderosa.

A propaganda hoje é basicamente para o desconhecido. Você não sabe quem está vendo o que ou como esta pessoa poderia interagir com o seu serviço ou produto.

E como fica a questão da privacidade?
Em primeiro lugar, acreditamos que temos de ser muito cuidadosos com a quantidade de dados que compartilhamos e como usamos informações sobre o comportamento do usuário. Na internet temos uma série de dados, mas usamos apenas uma fração.

E mandar anúncios que atendam seus interesses e necessidades no local e momento que ele realmente poderá aproveitar.

Além disso, acreditamos que esses programas funcionarão com a permissão do usuário. Somente se ele optar por compartilhar seus dados é que receberá esse tipo de abordagem.

Qual é a importância da busca para os dispositivos móveis?
Não pensamos na busca apenas como “busca”, mas sim como um ponto de entrada, porque acreditamos que quando a pessoa abre seu telefone, ela sempre está procurando alguma coisa. Está procurando um número de telefone, um amigo, um endereço, uma localização, pontos de interesse. O Yahoo One Search permite que as pessoas façam isso de maneira simples e com resultados relevantes. Lançamos outros serviços e clientes a partir do One Search, porque acreditamos que as pessoas usam a busca como ponto de partida na experiência móvel.

Quais são as possibilidades de anúncio em mobilidade?
Há uma série de possibilidades. Por enquanto estamos trabalhando com anúncios visuais (banners) e estamos começamos a implementar busca patrocinada, mas acreditamos que esta modalidade será uma fração menor da receita em publicidade móvel. Acreditamos que os anúncios visuais terão maior participação inicialmente, segundo evidências de experiências nos Estados Unidos e na Europa. Também enxergamos oportunidades em aplicações, serviços e vídeo.
