Liberdade de expressão na rede é defendida por gigantes da web

O Wall Street Journal revelou, esta semana, que os gigantes Microsoft, Yahoo! e Google estarão unidos para proteger a liberdade de expressão na Web. A idéia da Global Network Initiative é diminuir a repressão imposta pelas autoridades de alguns países.
As empresas prometem proteger as informações pessoais dos seus clientes e usuários, onde quer que estejam e para qualquer utilização dos sites, seja para entretenimento ou negócios, de acordo com a declaração oficial dos representantes dos maiores sites da internet.
Para que haja a liberdade de expressão por meio da legislação é preciso que além de esses domínios incentivarem e proporcionarem aos usuários a liberdade, propicie também a segurança das informações.
De acordo com a BBC, há um enorme ímpeto para promover o acordo, já que as três companhias foram criticadas anteriormente por terem ajudado o governo com medidas opressivas e fornecendo dados privados de internautas, particularmente na China.
O controle rigoroso das autoridades chinesas sobre a vida digital de seus cidadãos e, principalmente, o bloqueio de sites do ocidente ou que falem a respeito de democracia ou separatismo (como no caso do Tibete) acabou tomando a alcunha de "o Grande Firewall da China", numa alusão à Grande Muralha (em inglês, o trocadilho é mais direto: The Great China Wall contra The Great China Firewall). Microsoft, Yahoo! e Google pretendem, com a iniciativa, destacar sua imagem dessa incômoda associação.
